Used Jeep buying guide

Jeep Wrangler

Compared to a brand new vehicle, buying a used vehicle can be overwhelming. At Marine Chrysler, we get it. We understand that there can be a lot of anxiety when your'e shopping for a used vehicle. However there are perks with buying used.

Buying a used vehicle can be cheaper. Someone may be in a hurry to get rid of their Jeep Wrangler because they are moving away to another country. There are other unknown factors that you have to be careful. You might be buying from a frustrated owner who was tired of having to make too many repairs. The rule of thumb: you should have a full mechanical inspection before purchasing a used vehicle.

At Marine Chrysler, we have a lot of great used vehicles in our inventory, including off-road Jeep models. In particular, we have Used Jeep Wranglers for sale.

Let's give you a history lesson about the Wrangler. Dating back to World War II, the Wrangler were originally designed to be military Jeeps. Following the war, Willys-Overland saw a big opportunity to design Jeeps for civilian use. Fast forward to over 50 years later, the Wranglers are engineered with top-notch technology, enabling a smoother on-road driving and more axle flexibility for off-road driving.

For any off-road driving, the Jeep Wrangler is the go-to vehicle. We created a Used Jeep buying guide for the Wrangler to help you with your buying decision.

Jeep Wrangler

Models

The Jeep Wrangler is available in three models: Sport, Sahara, and Rubicon. For the best offroad capabilities, the preferred model is the Rubicon. The Rubicon model is designed for rock crawling. After all, it was named after the Rubicon Trail in California. The Rubicon is the best option if you're looking for a stock Jeep to take off-road. If you plan on making heavy modifications to your Wrangler, buy the Sport or Sahara models. There's no point in buying all the fancy features included with the Rubicon if you plan on only using the body frame as a platform to modify.

Best of all, every Wrangler model includes solid axles front and rear, recirculating ball hydraulic power steering, and 4-wheel drive.

Axles

When it comes to the axles, the Rubicon comes with Dana 44 axles front and rear. For the Sport and Sahara Wranglers, the front axle will be a low-pinion Dana 30. In comparison, the Dana 44 axle is a stronger axle engineered for heavier off-road use. If you don't drive plan to drive off-road on a day-to-day basis, the Dana 30 will hold its own. With the Sport and Sahara models, you also have the option of upgrading to a Dana 44. There are lots of axle upgrade options in the market.

Inspection

And finally, we want to remind you that Jeep Wranglers are designed for off-road driving. Many Jeep enthusiasts drive their Wranglers the way it was designed for. With that said, Wranglers are exposed to hazards that other cars do not typically experience. As a result, it is important to make sure a qualified and trusted mechanic inspects any used Wrangler vehicle you're considering to a purchase.
